Resources for teachers and curious learners
Culturix is a video encyclopedia of the world with a sense of humour. Every video is short, every video page shows the narration as text, and every video links the source its script was written from. Watching is free and needs no account.
What you will find here
- World: Short, source-linked explainers about famous places, UNESCO World Heritage sites, history, nature, animals and inventions.
- Not So Fast: Short animated videos where Gaston, Pip and the Wolf bust a popular misconception about animals, space, food or history, with their sources linked.
- Kulcha Toons: Short animated comedy sketches with a recurring cast, riffing on real news stories and world traditions. Each links to its source.
- The world explorer: pick a country on the map or filter by category.
How the facts are checked
A script is written from a named source, such as a Wikipedia article or a UNESCO World Heritage listing, and is checked against that source before a new video is published. The source is linked under the video, so a student can open it and compare. The videos are made with AI and the delivery is funny; the facts come from the source. Videos made before the review step was added may have no source link, and newer ones are reviewed. If you find a mistake, write to kulchaculturix@gmail.com.
Using a video in class
- Open the video page and play it from there. The page works on a phone, tablet or classroom computer.
- Read the transcript under the video together, or give it to students who prefer reading. It is the exact narration of the video.
- Use the source link as a starting point: ask students what the video left out, or what the source says differently.
- With Not So Fast, ask students to guess first whether the popular claim is true, then watch.
- To share a video, send its page address. The site is available in English, French, German and Spanish; the language is chosen in the site header.
