Sziget Festival on Old Buda Island

Sziget Festival is a week-long music event every August on Óbudai-sziget, a 108-hectare island on the Danube in northern Budapest. Diáksziget in 1993 ran over budget and wasn’t repaid until 1997. Budgeting is not rock and roll.

What the video says

Sziget Festival is a week-long music event every August on Óbudai-sziget, a 108-hectare island on the Danube in northern Budapest.

Diáksziget in 1993 ran over budget and wasn’t repaid until 1997. Budgeting is not rock and roll.

By 2018, total attendance reached 565,000. Around half travel from outside Hungary, especially Western Europe.

More than 1,000 performances happen yearly across genres like blues, jazz, world music, and rock. Blues and jazz share one island.

Sziget Festival ranks among Europe's top music gatherings.

Some try swimming across the Danube to enter. Swimming is just unpaid security work.

In 2024, KKR agreed to buy the company behind Sziget. The student project now belongs to finance.
